AB1955: An Attack on Parental Rights

California's far-left progressives are at it again with AB1955, a new law introduced by Scott Weiner, pictured below with “Proud Progressive” Laura Friedman. This legislation will prevent schools from informing parents if their children express any gender identity or gender dysphoria. As Alex Balekian, MD, running for Congress in California's 30th Congressional District, I feel compelled to dissect this dangerous legislation from a medical standpoint.

“Proud progressive” Laura Friedman, her friend Scott Weiner, and Governor Gavin Newsom.

The Life-Threatening Consequences

First and foremost, withholding such critical information from parents is life-threatening. Gender dysphoria is associated with a higher risk of suicide, and parents have a right to know if their child is experiencing this. Just as a doctor is liable for not informing parents about a child's serious illness, schools should not keep parents in the dark about their child's mental health.

The Path to Medical Decisions

Additionally, socially transitioning a child without parental knowledge paves the way for medical or surgical transitions, decisions that children cannot make on their own. The state should not take over parental responsibilities. A child does not have the medical decision-making capacity to understand the risks and benefits of such significant changes. Parents or legal guardians must be involved in these crucial decisions.

Existing Safeguards

There are already existing policies with Child Protective Services if a child is in danger of harm. Creating more laws to separate parents from their children is unnecessary and harmful. If informing a child's parents of their gender dysphoria poses a threat, physical or emotional, Child Protective Services can be alerted, and they can take appropriate action.

The Impact on Teachers

Finally, this law puts teachers in an uncomfortable position, caught between the directives of their unions and far-left progressives and the rights of parents. Teachers should be partners with parents, not pawns in a political battle. By imposing such laws, lawmakers like Laura Friedman create unnecessary conflict and stress for educators.

Alex Balekian for Congress

As a candidate for Congress in California's 30th Congressional District, I stand for law and order, reason, and responsibility. I believe in parental rights and that the government should not co-parent with families. This issue transcends party lines, marking a crucial divide between progressive and non-progressive ideologies.
